Supplements and Vitamins

First let's define what we mean by the word supplements. It was coined to describe products you can take in addition to your normal diet. Congress passed the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994 which created a definition of what a supplement is:

As defined by Congress in the DSHEA,  a dietary supplement is a product (other than tobacco) that:
bulletis intended to supplement the diet;
bulletcontains one or more dietary ingredients (including vitamins; minerals; herbs or other botanicals; amino acids; and other substances) or their constituents;
bulletis intended to be taken by mouth as a pill, capsule, tablet, or liquid; and
bulletis labeled on the front panel as being a dietary supplement.(1)

This includes a wide variety of products from vitamins, to minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, and substances such as enzymes, organ tissues, glandulars, and metabolites.

The Science Advisory report was titled "Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Lipids and Coronary Heart Disease". Then in 2002, the AHA released a new report indicating how omega-3 reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease. It said omega-3's make the blood less likely to form blood clots that cause heart attacks and protect against irregular heart beats that cause sudden cardiac death.
bulletVitamin D Prevents Cancer - According to researchers at the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) increased levels of Vitamin D3 could prevent 600,00 cases of breast and colorectal cancers each year. 150,000 in the US alone. This applies especially to countries north of the equator.
